T
he Atlanta Urban Development Corporation has issued a Request for Qualifications to redevelop Gun Club Park, a 44-acre vacant site on the Westside. The winning developer will transform the property into a residential community with single-family homes, townhomes, and small apartment buildings. The development will prioritize access to recreational amenities like Westside Park and include an even split of for-sale and rental units.
At least 40% of the rental units will be reserved for those earning between 50-80% of the area median income, while a quarter of homes for sale will also be affordable. This project aims to deliver over 200 units of permanently affordable housing. Gun Club Park was previously abandoned in 2003 after being used as an underused dumping ground.
Developer Brock Built had agreed to buy the site in 2021 but never closed the deal. The new developer will need to retain at least 40% of the existing tree canopy. This project is part of Atlanta Housing's efforts to create mixed-income communities on publicly-owned land, with a goal of creating or preserving 20,000 affordable housing units within eight years.
