Harvard University's New Student Housing Project Reaches Milestone in Boston

Shawmut Completes Topping Off at 100 South Campus Drive Mixed-Use Project in Allston.

S
hawmut Design and Construction has topped off 100 South Campus Drive, a mixed-use project in Allston that will provide sustainable housing for the Harvard University community. The development is part of a larger transformation of 175 North Harvard Street, which includes a new home for the American Repertory Theater (A.R.T.).

The project team consists of Marvel Architects and Northstar Project & Real Estate Services as owner's project manager. Upon completion, the building will feature 276 residential units, public-facing amenities, and achieve both Passive House and Living Building Challenge certifications.

"This milestone marks a significant step forward for Harvard and Allston communities," said Kevin Sullivan, Executive Vice President of Shawmut's New England Region. "We're proud to partner with Harvard on this transformative project, delivering critical sustainable housing and public spaces."

The building will prioritize eco-friendly transportation with 250 bicycle spaces and 75 automobile parking spaces. An elevated ground floor, integrated stormwater management systems, and natural irrigation methods create a campus environment that prioritizes sustainability and community well-being.

100 South Campus Drive will feature tree-lined streetscapes, a residential courtyard connecting the A.R.T. and the building, and green gathering areas to foster community interaction. The project balances modern campus needs with the surrounding Allston neighborhood, ensuring a seamless transition into its low-rise setting.

Located alongside the new A.R.T., 100 South Campus Drive will further transform the area into a vibrant hub that fosters community connections and advances sustainability goals.
