AA predicts a record-breaking 119.3 million people will travel 50 miles or more from home during the year-end holiday period, spanning December 21, 2024 to January 1, 2025. This marks a slight increase over the previous record set in 2019 and a 3 million-person jump from last year's numbers.

According to Stacey Barber, Vice President of AAA Travel, "The year-end holidays are a special time for creating lasting memories with loved ones, and travel is a big part of that." With Christmas Day falling on a Wednesday this year, AAA anticipates record-breaking travel numbers for the weekends before and after the holiday.

Top destinations for the 2024 holiday season include tropical locations like beach resorts and cruises. Southern cities such as Charleston and New Orleans also rank among the top 10 domestic destinations, while Bahrain has emerged as an international favorite due to its cruise port, pleasant climate, and rich cultural heritage.

Domestic cruise bookings are up 37% compared to last year's holiday season, with many families opting for a festive cruise experience. The popularity of cruising during this time is driven by the abundance of activities and food available on board.
