T
he bipartisan Congressional Real Estate Caucus has relaunched with a growing membership and renewed support for addressing housing issues. The caucus, which formed last year with just four members, now boasts over 50 members from both parties.
Reps. Mark Alford (R-Mo.), J. Luis Correa (D-Calif.), Tracey Mann (R-Kan.), and Brittany Pettersen (D-Colo.) co-founded the caucus in response to low inventory and worsening affordability in the housing market. The National Association of REALTORS, along with other industry trade groups, supports the caucus, emphasizing that housing is a bipartisan issue.
"Housing affordability is a crisis that affects people across party lines," said Shannon McGahn, NAR's Chief Advocacy Officer. "We applaud these lawmakers for working together to make housing more accessible and look forward to collaborating with them on increasing the housing supply."
The caucus provides an opportunity for all members of Congress to engage with housing issues, regardless of their committee assignments. Members recognize that today's market is hindered by barriers such as heavy-handed regulations and rising costs.
"We need to empower the real estate industry to provide housing options, generate jobs, and serve home and business owners," said Rep. Mann. "As a former commercial real estate agent, I'm proud to co-chair this caucus to advocate for making the American Dream attainable again."
NAR has several key legislative priorities, including updating tax law, increasing access to homeownership, promoting fair housing, and supporting research products that inform policymaking.
