Iconic Santa Monica Estate Sells for Record Luxury Price

Los Angeles County contract signings decline for third consecutive week, with some attributing slowdown to election uncertainty.

L
os Angeles County's signed contracts continued to decline for the third consecutive week, with some attributing the slowdown to the upcoming elections. According to the Eklund Weekly Luxury Report LA, 16 homes were signed in the county last week, totaling $102.3 million in asking dollar volume. This is a decrease from the prior week's 16 contracts worth $139.3 million.

Marcy Roth, managing director of Eklund Gomes California and luxury agent, notes that election years often see a slowdown in sales, but it's too early to predict a continued decline. Average asking prices per square foot, however, remain steady at $1,312, compared to previous weeks' averages of $1,358 and $1,238.

The top contract last week was a 5-bed, 6-bath home in Santa Monica listed by Coldwell Banker Realty's Todd Baker for just under $11 million. The property, designed by Ray Kappe, features a floating staircase, ocean views, and a sport court.

In second place was a Beverly Hills Flats residence at 608 Walden Drive, listed by Sotheby's International Realty's Grace Carelli for $8.5 million. This probate sale boasts renovated interior and exterior spaces with hardwood and tiled flooring, high-beam ceilings, and a solarium with a retractable glass roof.
