llinois Governor JB Pritzker and Hedge Fund Billionaire Ken Griffin Set Aside Rivalry for Real Estate Deal Despite years of public spats and multimillion-dollar campaign battles, Illinois Governor JB Pritzker has purchased two luxury condos from Citadel founder Ken Griffin at Chicago's exclusive No. 9 Walton. The $19 million deal hands Pritzker the building's top two floors – a combined 15,000 square feet of unfinished space with plans for a private rooftop pool and pavilion.
The sale marks a significant loss for Griffin, who purchased the properties in 2017 for $34 million but sold them for $19 million. This transaction adds to the duo's contentious history, as Griffin has been a vocal opponent of Pritzker's policies, pouring millions into opposing his gubernatorial campaign and income tax proposal.
The real estate deal ranks fourth among Chicago's priciest residential deals, behind Griffin's original purchase at No. 9 Walton and other high-end sales in the city. Despite still holding two additional floors in the building, Griffin has been selling off his Chicago properties since relocating Citadel to Miami due to concerns about local crime rates.
