illionaire Daren Metropoulos has completed a $10 million renovation of the iconic Playboy Mansion, which he purchased from Hugh Hefner in 2016 for $100 million. The five-year overhaul, led by architect Richard Landry, has transformed the sprawling Holmby Hills property.
Metropoulos, son of billionaire investor Dean Metropoulos, made his fortune through companies like Hostess and Pabst Brewing Company. He previously lived next door to the mansion on a neighboring estate. After purchasing the 29-room home, Metropoulos allowed Hefner to live there until his death in 2017.
The renovation has breathed new life into the nearly 100-year-old estate. The Gothic facade now boasts a new roof and sunny skylights, while the rear terrace has been extended and a large solarium constructed. A brand-new tennis court and upgraded outbuildings have also been added. Even the infamous grotto, where guests contracted Legionnaire's disease in 2004, has received a much-needed overhaul.
The property's main house now features a resurfaced pool with an aqua and cream color scheme, as well as new stonework around the freeform pool. The kitchen and bathrooms have been remodeled, and plans for a gym and garage were executed. Metropoulos, who sold Hostess to Smuckers for $5.6 billion in 2023, has hinted at combining the mansion with his neighboring estate one day.
