$1 billion mixed-use development is set to transform a former Halliburton campus in Westchase into Park Eight Place. Johnson Development secured approval from the Houston City Council to designate the 70-acre project as an official Walkable Place, allowing for denser development in exchange for meeting pedestrian-friendly standards.
The city eased setback requirements and reduced parking by 16 percent, enabling Johnson to create a more walkable community. "We envision residents riding their bikes to work at the Medical Center and then biking home along the trail," said Charlie Lusk of Johnson Development.
Park Eight Place will feature 2 million square feet of mixed-use development, including residential, retail, and office spaces, as well as 2 miles of trails, 6 acres of green space, and connections to the Brays Bayou Greenway Trail. Construction on roads and utilities is set to begin early next year.
Johnson Development, a top developer in Texas with three master-planned communities ranking among the top 50 for the Houston market, will bring its expertise to Park Eight Place. The project marks a significant milestone for the city's Walkable Places program, which encourages developments that prioritize pedestrians.
