PMorgan Chase CEO Jamie Dimon is trying to sweeten the deal for employees returning to the office five days a week with a slew of amenities at its new $3 billion headquarters on 270 Park Avenue. The building, set to open this month, boasts a food hall with 19 cafes, art displays from David Rockefeller's collection, and even an Irish pub.
However, some employees are grumbling about the "cutting-edge Fitness Center," which won't be free after all. According to an internal memo, staff will need to pay a monthly membership fee, although the cost hasn't been disclosed yet.
On Reddit, some disgruntled employees joked that they'd rather spend their money at a nearby gym like Equinox. One user quipped, "Shareholder value!" Another pointed out that a free gym for 14,000 people would be a logistical nightmare.
The fitness center will offer access to cardio equipment, strength training, and recovery tools, as well as group exercise classes, nutrition consultations, and sessions with a wellness coach. A JPMorgan Chase spokesperson denied claims that the fitness center was initially promised to be free, saying everything is still being finalized.
