exas billionaire Tilman Fertitta has acquired Manhattan's iconic Keens Steakhouse brand and its Midtown location for $30 million. The purchase was made by two limited liability companies, with Fertitta's hospitality company Landry's at the helm. As CEO of Landry's, Fertitta oversees a portfolio that includes Morton's The Steakhouse, The Palm, and Rainforest Cafe.
Keens Steakhouse has been a Manhattan staple since 1885, when it was founded by Albert Keen. Restaurateur George Schwarz revived the establishment in the late 1970s, attracting high-profile clients like Anthony Bourdain. After Schwarz's death in 2016, his estate oversaw the sale to Landry's.
Fertitta's acquisition of Keens Steakhouse adds to his hospitality empire, which also includes luxury hotels and the Golden Nugget Casino and Hotel brand. As owner of the NBA's Houston Rockets, Fertitta has a net worth estimated at $15.2 billion by Bloomberg's Billionaires Index. He has promised that Keens will continue to operate in its traditional style, offering "one of the best experiences in New York City."
