Kelsey Grammer's English Cottage Demolition Plans Spark Local Outrage

Kelsey Grammer's plans to demolish Squires Cottage in England spark local backlash.

K
elsey Grammer's plans to demolish a 200-year-old English cottage have sparked outrage among local residents. The actor, known for his roles in "Cheers" and "Frasier," purchased the historic property in 2023 with his wife Kayte Walsh.

The two-bedroom stone cottage boasts stunning views of farmland and the Bristol Channel. Despite its charm, Grammer has been given permission to tear it down and build a modern four-bedroom home with a game room and gym. However, local residents are fiercely opposed to the plan, citing concerns about preserving the area's character and history.

"I think it's such a shame because it's a beautiful building with character," said Wendy Osment, a 74-year-old resident who has lived in the area for decades. "People have already taken down some of the old cottages." Others have been even more vocal, calling the planned demolition "a disgrace."

The local Parish Council has described the cottage as a "historic icon" and many residents are worried that its destruction will further drive up property values, making it impossible for locals to afford homes in the area. Grammer's plans were initially rejected last year when he applied to build an extension onto the home, but he has since been given permission to demolish the cottage entirely.

The council requires Grammer to begin demolition by February 2030, but so far, he has not responded to the backlash from local residents.
