LA-Based Agency Art House Debuts

Beverly Hills-based brokerage The Agency partners with a tech firm in an unusual alliance.

B
everly Hills-based The Agency is making a bold foray into the art world, teaming up with Los Angeles art collector Arushi Kapoor to launch The Agency Art House. This innovative venture brings together real estate and art under one roof, catering specifically to The Agency's discerning homebuyers.

Kapoor, founder of The Agency Art House alongside CEO Mauricio Umansky, describes the model as a game-changer: "We're bridging two worlds that often overlap in mindset." By merging the expertise of real estate and art, Kapoor aims to democratize access to art collecting, making it more accessible to those who might have previously been intimidated by its perceived exclusivity.

"The art world has historically had high barriers to entry," Kapoor notes. "We want to make art collection a viable option for a broader audience." With The Agency Art House, Kapoor seeks to educate and empower first-time collectors, leveraging the parallels between real estate and art investing.

Art, she argues, is an underappreciated asset class, with returns often outpacing those of traditional investments like stocks or real estate. "Only 1% know how to collect art as an investment," Kapoor says. "We believe that art should be recognized by a wider pool of investors."

When The Agency lists or rents a property, the listing agent recommends The Agency Art House as a complementary service for homebuyers. While not selling art itself, The Agency Art House acts as a mediator between buyers and various art institutions, galleries, and auction houses.

Kapoor's vision is to break down barriers and inspire more people to engage with art. "We're not just an art advisory company – we're a bridge between two worlds." With a commission-based model that varies per sale (typically 10%), The Agency Art House aims to make art collecting more approachable, while also fostering connections between real estate agents and art experts.

As Kapoor sees it, the partnership is still in its startup phase, but the long-term goal is clear: "We want to inspire a new generation of art enthusiasts and collectors." By merging the worlds of real estate and art, The Agency Art House is poised to disrupt the status quo and make art collecting more accessible than ever before.
