39-year-old man, Youssef Megahed, was arrested by Miami police on Tuesday after allegedly stabbing his former landlord. The Egyptian national is also suspected of being involved in several cases of real estate fraud in South Florida. He was booked into jail on a charge of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon.
Megahed's latest arrest report lists his home address as a business in the Allapattah neighborhood, while his previous arrest report listed his home address as a demolished Miami Subs Grill in Riviera Beach. The alleged crime occurred at a business in Liberty City, where the victim arrived to do renovation work and was stabbed in the left eye.
The victim managed to wrestle the weapon away from Megahed and identified him as a former tenant of the property. Police found a grey and blue screwdriver near the scene and surveillance video showed Megahed fleeing with a blue container or bucket. He was taken into custody at his listed address, where police found a multi-colored checkered shirt matching the one worn by Megahed on the day of the incident.
A search warrant revealed suspected dry blood on the shirt. Megahed had previously been arrested in August for breaking into a business he once rented and removing a fridge. He was out on bond at the time of his latest arrest, which occurred while he was being held on charges related to an August burglary case.
Miami police are urging anyone who has interacted with Megahed to contact their Economic Crimes Unit. As of Wednesday, Megahed was being held in the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center with a bond yet to be set.
