Local landowner sells 160-acre property in Charlotte to Texas tech investor

Charlotte Developer Sells 160 Acres to Texas Data Center Firm

C
harlotte developer Graeme Keith has sold 160 acres on the city's west side to Digital Realty, a Texas-based company specializing in data centers. The site at 12899 Moores Chapel Road was purchased for $160 million, according to Mecklenburg County real estate records. Located about 12 miles from downtown Charlotte, the property offers easy access to major highways and is just five miles from the Charlotte Douglas International Airport.

The acquisition marks a strategic expansion of Digital Realty's portfolio, which includes over 300 data centers across more than 55 metropolitan areas globally. The company currently operates a data center facility in Uptown Charlotte and plans for the Moores Chapel Road site are unclear. However, the purchase suggests Digital Realty is looking to increase its presence in the region.

North Carolina has become a hub for data center projects, with several major investments in recent months. PowerHouse Data Centers and Town Lane purchased 122 acres off University City Boulevard in northeast Charlotte for $45.5 million, planning a 2.5 million-square-foot data center campus that will produce 300 megawatts of power by April 2027. Microsoft has also invested heavily in the state, building three data centers in Catawba County and purchasing a 1,350-acre megasite in Person County.
