usiness leaders are prioritizing connectivity over price and amenities when leasing office space, according to a recent study by Boldyn Networks. The survey of 2,000 business leaders in the US and UK found that while location remains the top factor, Wi-Fi and cellular connectivity have become crucial considerations. In fact, four out of five respondents believe seamless connectivity directly impacts employee productivity.
The significance of reliable connectivity extends beyond leasing decisions, with nearly every respondent willing to pay more for robust and reliable connectivity at their premises. To meet tenants' expectations, property owners are investing in network infrastructure, recognizing that exceptional connectivity fuels business operations and boosts employee satisfaction.
Demand for smart building technologies is also on the rise, with nine out of ten US and UK business leaders agreeing that smart systems would improve the tenant experience. The global smart building market is expected to reach $568 billion by 2032, driven by the need for sustainable, tech-enabled spaces. As real estate accounts for 40% of global carbon emissions, smart technologies reliant on robust connectivity will play a crucial role in creating a greener future.
Business leaders are changing their expectations towards smart and sustainable workplaces, with employee satisfaction and productivity top priorities. To support these new services and applications, business connectivity must be able to adapt and evolve. As the UK drives towards net-zero buildings by 2030, smarter, connected buildings will become essential for reducing carbon footprints and optimizing energy use.
