A
luxury high-rise is being built in Brooklyn's family-friendly Park Slope neighborhood, catering specifically to childless couples. The 13-story building at 655 Union St. features upscale amenities like a Pilates studio, rooftop pool with social events, and dog spa – but no playground or playrooms.
Developer Avery Hall LLC has designed the building for DINKs (dual income no kids) in their 20s and 30s who are delaying parenthood. According to Brian Ezra, founding partner at Avery Hall, the national fertility rate has dropped to a historic low, with births falling 3% from 2022.
The building's amenities focus on health and wellness, including a Pilates studio, Peloton bike gym, and concierge service for booking reservations and dog walkers. Units range from one- to two-bedrooms, priced up to mid-$8,000s, with ample space that "doesn't feel like a cookie cutter box."
Real estate agent Kirsten Jordan notes that high-end buildings in Brooklyn often skip children's playrooms, opting instead for multi-purpose spaces geared towards adults. Park Slope residents expressed mixed opinions about the building, with some appreciating the neighborhood's family atmosphere and others seeing it as excessive.
655 Union St. is set to open by mid-January, catering to childless couples who want luxury amenities without the added expense of raising a family in one of New York City's five boroughs.
