Luxury Gold Coast estate sets new record with high Nassau County sale price

Erchless Estate on Long Island's Gold Coast sold to anonymous buyer for $21M.

A
sprawling Gold Coast estate in Old Westbury has been sold for a record-breaking price in Nassau County this year. The anonymous buyer, a real estate developer and health care mogul residing in the village, purchased Erchless at 75 Post Road for $21 million, just shy of its asking price of $23 million.

The property's plans are unclear, with the possibility of subdivision or personal use by the buyer. The estate features an impressive 16,000-square-foot mansion with seven primary bedrooms and eight staff bedrooms, as well as 12 bathrooms, nine fireplaces, and a curved staircase.

Built nearly a century ago for Howard Phipps Jr.'s family, the U-shaped Georgian Colonial-style mansion sits on 92 acres of land. The grounds include four greenhouses, a carriage barn with loft bedrooms, a cow barn with a 17th-century cellar, a super's house, and a chauffeur's house.

The estate also boasts an award-winning rhododendron garden designed by the buyer's father, a renowned horticulturist. A heated pool and other amenities complete the property. The sale surpasses the previous largest transaction in Nassau County this year, Sean Hannity's $12.7 million purchase of his Gold Coast home in Oyster Bay.

Daniel Gale Sotheby's International Realty's Lois Kirschenbaum had the listing, while Douglas Elliman's Maria Babaev represented the buyer.
