T
he Trump administration has identified nine federal properties in Massachusetts for potential sale, including the John F. Kennedy and "Tip" O'Neill office complexes in Boston, as well as the Volpe transportation center in Cambridge's Kendall Square. The U.S. General Services Administration (GSA) published a list of hundreds of non-core federal properties nationwide, citing efforts to reduce government costs.
The GSA website notes that these surplus properties could be considered for disposal through a multi-step process. However, being on the "non-core" list does not guarantee sale, as any potential transaction would require an offer and evaluation by the Public Buildings Service. The Massachusetts properties span over 2.5 million square feet, with the Kennedy Federal Building being the largest at 838,000 square feet.
This complex consists of two 26-story towers and a low-rise building adjacent to Boston's City Hall.
