augel DeStefano Architects, Integrated Builders, and Northstar Project & Real Estate Services have completed a new 169,000-square-foot research and development facility for Werfen in Bedford, Massachusetts. The two-story building features lab and office space above ground-level parking that accommodates 160 vehicles.
Werfen's Senior Facilities Manager Brian Reiss praised the project team for delivering the state-of-the-art facility ahead of schedule and under budget. "The entire project was completed through a collaborative process from inception to completion," he said. Maugel DeStefano Architects has worked with Werfen for over 13 years, initially partnering on projects at the Bedford site.
Reiss credited Northstar Project & Real Estate Services and Integrated Builders as key partners in the project's success. "They managed every facet of the project from design concepts to contract award," he said. General contractor Integrated Builders was praised for assembling a team that tackled complex challenges, including height restrictions and environmental regulations.
The new facility enhances Werfen's potential for innovation in specialized diagnostics and offers additional room for future growth. Designed with flexibility in mind, the laboratories support ongoing growth and development requirements of each department. The building features clear sightlines from open office areas into labs, encouraging a sense of connection.
"We are proud to bring this advanced center for Hemostasis and Acute Care Diagnostics to Werfen's Bedford campus," said Mike Kunz, principal at Maugel DeStefano Architects. "The project team worked diligently to ensure that every aspect of the facility aligned perfectly with Werfen's operational goals and research objectives."
Integrated Builders President John Concannon added, "We delivered the building one month ahead of schedule and under budget through a collaborative effort with the talented teams at Northstar Project & Real Estate Services, Maugel DeStefano Architects, VHB, and Haley Aldrich."
