M
/I Homes is expanding its presence in the Charlotte region with a new project that combines suburban living with urban amenities. The Columbus, Ohio-based homebuilder has acquired 220 acres in Locust for Amber Glen, a 184-home community that marks its first entry into Stanly County. Development on the site will begin this month, with floor plans ranging from 2,700 to 3,600 square feet and three to five bedrooms.
Located near downtown Locust, Amber Glen offers easy access to parks, restaurants, and local businesses, fostering a strong sense of community among residents. This project builds on M/I Homes' recent acquisitions in the area, including a 123.5-acre site in Mooresville for single-family homes and townhomes, as well as developments in Wingate, Gastonia, and York.
The Charlotte housing market has seen significant growth, with home prices rising nearly 45% since January 2021. However, compared to major metros like New York or Washington, D.C., the median sale price of $415,000 remains relatively affordable. Mungo Homes, a Columbia, South Carolina-based builder, is also expanding into the market with two projects: Sloan Station in west Charlotte and Lakeview Village in north Charlotte, offering nearly 100 homes priced above $300,000.
