A
highly anticipated Christie's auction will not only showcase the exquisite art collection of Mica Ertegun but also highlight her stunning Hamptons estate, which is now for sale for $52 million. The 11,000-square-foot mansion on 5.5 acres features 10 bedrooms, 13.5 bathrooms, and a grand Palladian layout with soaring ceilings.
The property, one of four owned by the Erteguns around the world, has been meticulously maintained but is now empty as its contents are being auctioned off. The sale includes works from inside the Southampton home, such as paintings by Hans Hofmann, Joan Miró, and David Hockney, which are estimated to fetch up to $6 million.
The collection also features a rare René Magritte painting valued at over $95 million, which was previously displayed in their New York townhouse. Other notable items include a vibrant work by Fritz Glarner, expected to sell for up to $370,000, and a Jean Hélion piece estimated to fetch up to $850,000.
The Erteguns' life was a whirlwind of culture, music, and high society, hosting famous guests like Jacqueline Onassis and Mick Jagger. Mica's interior design style blended European and Middle Eastern influences with warmth and sophistication. Her Southampton home is a testament to her exquisite taste, featuring an Edgar Degas sculpture, interwar European paintings, and 19th-century bronzes.
The auction will present a prime opportunity for buyers to own pieces that once graced the halls of the Erteguns' residences in New York, Paris, and Southampton. The sale's proceeds will go towards philanthropic causes, with an estimated total exceeding $144 million.
