Minnesota Woman Sentenced to 20 Years for Agent's Murder in Plea Bargain

Woman Sentenced to 20 Years for Alleged Role in Real Estate Agent's Killing

A
Minnesota judge has sentenced Elsa Segura to 20 years in prison for her alleged role in the 2019 New Year's Eve killing of Minneapolis real estate agent Monique Baugh. As part of a plea deal with prosecutors, Segura pleaded guilty to kidnapping to commit great bodily harm or terrorize. The conviction was overturned by the Minnesota Supreme Court earlier this year due to faulty jury instructions.

Segura had been found guilty of murder and other charges in 2021, but the new sentence avoids a second trial. Prosecutors claim that Baugh was lured to a fake home showing in Maple Grove, where she was kidnapped and later found fatally shot in a Minneapolis alley. The killing is believed to be part of a revenge scheme against Baugh's boyfriend, Jon Mitchell-Momoh, who had a falling out with his former business associate Lyndon Akeem Wiggins.

Wiggins, Segura's romantic partner, is also accused of being involved in the plot and was previously convicted but had his conviction overturned due to faulty jury instructions. He is currently being held in county jail and faces retrial. Two other defendants accused of kidnapping Baugh have been sentenced to life in prison without parole by Hennepin County Judge Peter Cahill.
