ohn Mack and his wife Christy are parting ways with their luxurious beachfront estate in the British Virgin Islands, putting it on the market for $29.5 million after a massive renovation that cost them $18 million. The couple's journey began in 2011 when they stumbled upon a raw plot of land while sailing in the area. Despite initial enthusiasm, they soon faced design challenges and struggled to find an architect.
After trading their empty lot for a beachside spec house, Christy was unimpressed with its interior and decided to gut it, knocking down walls, moving doors, and redesigning the space. The result is a 6,000-square-foot oasis with six bedrooms, a pool, hot tub, and direct access to the beach.
The renovation process was not without its setbacks, including a hurricane that forced them to rebuild some of their work. After four years, the couple finally moved in during the pandemic but are now ready to move on due to their children's changing priorities. Christy describes the property as "a very fair price" and emphasizes that they're not trying to overprice it.
The estate features custom furnishings, unique touches like Teflon-coated wallpaper, and soundproof media rooms. With its prime location in Oil Nut Bay, the property offers direct access to a club, tennis courts, and gym. This listing joins another high-end property in the area, former New Hampshire Gov. John Lynch's island home, which went on sale for $15.9 million in July.
