NAR's Nykia Wright Outlines Plan to Strengthen Broker Connections

Wright addresses CEOs of brokerages and MLSs.

N
ykia Wright, CEO of the National Association of REALTORS®, expressed optimism about the future of the real estate industry during a recent gathering in Washington, D.C. "Every storm eventually runs out of rain," she said, suggesting that the current challenges facing NAR are nearing an end. Nearly two years after the association reached a settlement with home sellers and implemented practice changes, Wright is focused on rebuilding relationships with brokers through face-to-face meetings and travel across the country.

Wright has been working to regain trust among NAR members, citing a conversation with Warren Buffett about the importance of reputation. She expects NAR to represent the industry with professionalism and integrity. The association's CEO shared her vision for transforming NAR into a "basecamp" where agents and brokers can access education and tools to succeed.

NAR is currently overhauling its education and events programming under new senior vice president Elizabeth Ranno, emphasizing the need for real estate professionals to continue learning and cross-training in various disciplines. Wright has also enrolled in an artificial intelligence course at the University of Chicago to stay ahead of industry trends.

Protecting the REALTOR® trademark remains a top priority, with NAR utilizing AI-powered tools to detect and prevent infringement more quickly. Leslie Nettleford-Freeman, associate general counsel and vice president of legal affairs and brand protection, is leading this effort after joining NAR from AARP. Wright emphasized that while NAR provides value to the entire real estate ecosystem, defending the REALTOR® trademark requires a focus on self-preservation.
