A
t the southern tip of Absecon Island, Longport narrows to a point, where seven homes on Point Drive boast stunning ocean views. One property, situated at the southwestern tip, offers an even more expansive view of the inlet and back bay, with 280-degree vistas of both ocean and bay, sunrises and sunsets. However, this unique spot will soon be home to only six residences, as a businessman from Burlington County purchased two adjacent properties for $19 million and demolished them.
The new owner, Jim Brennan Jr., founder of Sea Box, has declined to comment on the sale and demolition. Real estate agents and Longport officials have also remained tight-lipped about the transaction. Emily Marchese, CEO of Marchese Real Estate in Margate, notes that buyers at this price point often prioritize their privacy.
The properties were previously owned by Marvin Ashner, a hotelier who died in 2018, and Andrew Barroway, a hedge fund manager. The sale of 7 Point Drive, which sold for $12.8 million, is particularly notable as the home had undergone significant renovations just before being demolished. Marchese suggests that land value can sometimes exceed the value of the property itself.
Demolition plans required a state permit due to the waterfront location. The new single-family home on the combined lot will feature an elevated infinity pool and attached garage. The sudden disappearance of the homes has sparked concern among locals, including professional surfer Ben Gravy, who credits the break in front of The Point as responsible for his surfing career.
