ew York Attorney General Letitia James has dismissed a Department of Justice investigation into her real estate dealings as baseless, calling it retribution for her office's work against the Trump Administration. She also defended the use of state funds to cover private legal battles. On Wednesday, James announced a preliminary injunction that blocked the dismantling of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, among other Trump policies she has opposed. "These battles are baseless," James said. "They're a result of all the work we've done." Her office has successfully challenged several Trump Administration moves, including efforts to dismantle the National Institutes of Health and the Department of Education. James emphasized that her office will continue to stand up for New Yorkers, even if it means using state funds to cover outside legal services. "We're not going to let anyone take away from our constituents," she said. The state budget includes $10 million for such expenses, which James characterized as routine under the Public Officers Law.
