n the wake of their WNBA championship win, the New York Liberty are poised to take their success to new heights with a state-of-the-art training complex in Brooklyn's Greenpoint neighborhood. Set to open in 2027, the $80 million facility will transform a former lightbulb factory into a cutting-edge hub tailored to the team's needs.
At the heart of this project is a commitment to player-centric design, with star players like Sabrina Ionescu and Jonquel Jones collaborating closely with Populous to shape the space. "We're not just building a facility – we're creating a home for our athletes," said Team Governor Clara Wu Tsai. "One that reflects their talent, work ethic, and ambition."
The 75,000-square-foot complex will boast cutting-edge amenities, including advanced basketball courts with remote cameras, data analytics, and video screens for instant film review. A two-story fitness area and recovery wing featuring a sauna, steam room, and hyperbaric chamber will also be on site.
Beyond performance, the facility prioritizes player comfort and community ties. Family-friendly lounges with nurseries will cater to players like Breanna Stewart, who noted, "As a mom, I'm grateful for the family rooms – it means everything to know my family is cared for while I focus on my craft."
The development blends old and new, with the original factory's brick and timber structure housing offices, a media room, and broadcast studio. A 40,000-square-foot addition will contain most player amenities, including two advanced practice courts, a recovery suite, and luxurious locker rooms.
Fans won't be left out – plans for a retail and hospitality zone promise an immersive experience. General Manager Jonathan Kolb framed the facility as a competitive edge: "The New York Liberty strive to be the standard on and off the court, and this facility will be a game changer as we continue our pursuit of excellence."
