N
icholas Sparks's sprawling riverfront home in New Bern, North Carolina, was once an active household of 13 people, including his five children and four dogs. The three-story house has undergone significant changes since its construction, with Mr. Sparks describing it as a "museum" that showcases his family's history.

The author, known for his romantic novels like "The Notebook," which sold over 14 million copies worldwide, has lived in the Low Country-style home for 15 years. He designed the house himself, working with an architect to create a space that would accommodate his growing family. The residence boasts six bedrooms, a library, music room, pub room, office space, movie theater, and expansive living area.

Mr. Sparks's love for North Carolina is evident in his home, which features paintings by local artists and a porch overlooking the Trent River. He has lived in the region for 32 years, drawn to its small-town vibe, affable climate, and coastal landscapes. The author's writing space is filled with bookshelves stacked with various editions of his novels, including his latest release, "Counting Miracles."

When he's not writing or spending time with his children, Mr. Sparks enjoys making chicken salad and reading on his plush couches. He has a strong connection to the people in his life, often drawing inspiration from them for his stories. His nonprofit organization, the Nicholas Sparks Foundation, supports global education, and he has helped fund international travel excursions for hundreds of children since 2006.

Mr. Sparks's home is also a testament to his love of art and culture. The walls are adorned with paintings by local artists, including Richard Fennell's portraits of his youngest children. His library features books of all genres, as well as an Hermès backgammon board made from mahogany and swift calfskin.

The author has produced six movies based on his novels, earning just one screenplay credit for "The Last Song." He believes that the movies have been beneficial to his career, introducing people to the stories he thought were worth telling. Mr. Sparks's home is a reflection of his creative spirit and love for storytelling, making it a unique and inspiring space.
