Wyckoff man was arrested on Thursday after allegedly deceiving eight people into investing in a fake North Jersey real estate scheme. Jason McNeill, 48, is charged with theft by deception and forgery, according to the Bergen County Prosecutor's Office.
Prosecutors claim that between April and June of this year, McNeill presented forged documents to convince investors to put up approximately $420,000 for vacant lots in Newark. However, he allegedly told victims that the funds were meant for investment properties in the city.
An investigation by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Financial Crimes Unit, along with local police departments, led to McNeill's arrest without incident at his Wyckoff home. He was taken to the Bergen County Jail and is set to appear in court in Hackensack.
