A
notorious Upper West Side apartment, where two young siblings were brutally murdered by their nanny in 2012, has found a new tenant. The three-bedroom unit at 321 Columbus Ave., where Lucia and Leo Krim were fatally stabbed, was leased for $8,750 per month on February 13.
The price is down nearly 30% from the original rent of $12,000 per month in 2008. This is not the first time the apartment has been rented since the tragic incident; it returned to the market in April 2015 at a reduced rate of $9,000 per month.
Despite its dark history, the listing touts the property as a dream home after a gut renovation, featuring soaring ceilings, restored hardwood floors, and modern appliances. The apartment is located in the historic La Rochelle building, a pre-war gem in one of Manhattan's most sought-after neighborhoods.
The murders of Lucia, 6, and Leo, 2, shocked New Yorkers, particularly those who rely on nannies to care for their children. Their mother, Marina Krim, discovered the bodies of her two children in the bathtub after returning home from a swimming lesson with their middle child, Nessie.
Yoselyn Ortega, the nanny responsible for the murders, was found guilty in 2018 and is serving life in prison without parole. The Krims have since had two more children, Felix and Linus, born in 2013 and 2016, respectively.
The Corcoran Group, which listed the apartment, declined to comment on the lease. La Rochelle is a 76-unit building near the Museum of Natural History, with only one unit currently available for rent at $8,250 per month.
