NYC Luxury Apartment Linked to NBA Scandal Now on Market for $22.5M

80 Washington Place, famed for NBA stars and Mafia poker, is back on the market—new chapter in its odd saga.

0 Washington Place, a landmarked Georgian townhouse in Manhattan, is back on the market for $22.5 million. The 19‑story brick home, built in 1839 by architect William Renwick, once housed John Philip Sousa’s family and later became the rental of Travis Scott while he dated Kylie Jenner. The property was sold last year for $17 million in cash by an anonymous owner, William Rainero, who grew up in the house when it was split into apartments.

The townhouse has been on and off the market for 12 years, first listed in 2012 for $31.5 million. It was recently spotlighted when federal prosecutors charged Thomas “Juice” Gelardo, a Bonanno and Genovese associate, and more than 30 others with running illegal poker games from the building in 2023. NBA figures—Chauncey Billups, Damon Jones, and Terry Rozier—were allegedly used to lure high‑rolling players to the games, which were said to be controlled by the Gambino family. Jenner and Scott were not named in the indictment, and there is no evidence they knew of the scheme.

The home was gutted in 2011 by Clodagh Design, blending glass, steel, and wood with the original brick and stone. Eleven skylights flood the 8,700‑square‑foot interior. The townhouse spans six bedrooms, six full baths, and three powder rooms. Six private terraces add 1,566 sq ft of outdoor space, offering views of Washington Square Park and the World Trade Center.

Inside, a floating wood‑and‑glass staircase leads to a foyer that opens to a chef’s kitchen. A double‑height great room features a gas fireplace, floor‑to‑ceiling glass doors to the garden, and a custom elevator. The basement houses a 700‑bottle wine cellar, bar, and tasting lounge. A mezzanine level provides space for an office, library, studio, or game lounge.

The third floor contains two guest suites with ensuite spa‑style baths. The fourth floor hosts the primary suite, complete with a fireplace, private terrace, spa bath, and walk‑in closet. The fifth floor offers a gym, glass‑enclosed sauna, terrace, and an extra bedroom. The roof deck is designed for entertaining, with a grilling area, dining space, bar, and lounge.

The townhouse has appeared in Architectural Digest and House Beautiful. Travis Scott once shared a photo of the home on his social media while living there. The listing broker is Melissa Olson of Douglas Elliman. Approved building plans for proposed modifications are available, as any changes to the 186‑year‑old landmarked property require city approval.
