ew York City’s mayoral race is stirring unease among South Florida buyers. Isaac Toledano, CEO of BH Group Miami, notes that the contest could ripple into the region. “We’re already seeing New York buyers, brokers, and agents scouting properties and gathering intel,” he says. His clients worry that if Zohran Mam Madi, a self‑described democratic socialist, wins, crime and taxes could climb. Mam Madi’s platform—rent freeze, free bus service, and a 2 % tax hike on high earners—has him ahead in polls against Republican Curtis Sliwa and independent Andrew Cuomo. “It’s not just taxes; safety is a big issue,” Toledano adds, noting Florida’s reputation for safety. Former President Donald Trump has threatened to withhold federal funds from New York if Mam Madi takes office, calling him a communist and backing Cuomo. The New York Post reports that almost one million New Yorkers might leave the city, with Florida topping the list of destinations. If this migration occurs, supply and demand dynamics could push South Florida home prices higher, Toledano warns.
