aul Newman and Joanne Woodward’s former Manhattan apartment has finally entered the market after more than four decades. The two‑bedroom, one‑and‑a‑half‑bath unit, once used by the Hollywood legend and his wife as an office and guest suite, is listed at $1.69 million by Corcoran Group agents Noble Black, Jennifer Kaufman Stillman and Jeffrey Gageby. Built in 1925, the building offers 24‑hour doorman service, a fitness center, a bike room and panoramic views of Central Park.

    The couple shared the penthouse above the apartment, which sold in July for $14 million. Their children listed the penthouse on behalf of Woodward, who had been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s in 2007. Newman and Woodward met in 1953 on the Broadway production of “Picnic” and married in 1958. They remained together for 50 years, producing 16 films before Newman’s death in 2008.

    Despite their public image as a Hollywood power couple, their daughters Clea and Melissa have described their parents’ marriage as “complicated,” noting periods of tension and drama. In his posthumous memoir, “Paul Newman: The Extraordinary Life of an Ordinary Man,” Newman reflected on how Woodward brought out a new side of him, describing their relationship as a blend of passion and partnership.

    The apartment’s layout includes a living room, casual dining area with built‑in bookshelves, and a kitchen with a green‑tiled backsplash. The unit’s location one floor below the couple’s main residence made it ideal for hosting guests and conducting business. With its historic charm and modern amenities, the property offers a rare glimpse into the private life of one of cinema’s most beloved duos.
