Phoenix Fire Co. No. 2 firehouse to be repurposed as real estate office after merger with Humane Fire Co.

P
ottsville's Phoenix Fire Co. No. 2 firehouse, slated for closure due to a merger with Humane Fire Co. No. 1, will be repurposed as the new home of Saunders Real Estate. Owner Jill Saunders is purchasing the building and relocating her business from Schuylkill Haven.

Saunders was initially hired by Phoenix to list the building for sale but ended up buying it after being impressed by its stunning architecture and well-preserved original craftsmanship. The firehouse still features tin ceilings, a room where horses were housed in the 1800s, and a ladder truck.

The property will be used as office space with Saunders Real Estate occupying the main floor and sales agents' offices on the second floor. A grand opening is scheduled for October 25. Saunders expects to close on the sale by the end of May.

Saunders expressed her excitement about expanding her business and becoming more involved in the community that has supported her for years. Phoenix officials, including Lieutenant Bill DeWald and Vice President Steve Karinch, welcomed the new owner and praised the decision to preserve a piece of Pottsville's history.
