ange Group is moving forward with its multifamily redevelopment project in Chicago's West Town neighborhood. The company plans to demolish a vacant industrial building at 455 North Carpenter Street and construct a five-story building with 72 units, including 14 reserved for affordable housing. Designed by Hartshorne Plunkard Architecture, the building will feature studios, one- and two-bedroom apartments, as well as 3,600 square feet of retail space on West Grand Avenue.
The project received variances from the Zoning Board of Appeals, allowing Range Group to reduce the rooftop setback and transparent window area facing the street. The residential portion will be accessible from North Carpenter, while the retail component will be located around the corner. Thirty parking spaces will be positioned at the rear of the building.
West Town is situated near a major redevelopment project led by the Reinsdorf and Wirtz families, which aims to transform the area around the United Center with 9,500 apartments, over 1,300 hotel rooms, and a residential high-rise. The Chicago apartment market remains strong, despite some challenges related to interest rates and construction costs.
