n Rapid City, South Dakota, a pressing issue has been tackled head-on by Blue Line Development Incorporated. The company's Sagebrush Flats apartment complex is now open for business, offering 180 affordable housing units to the community. According to Jason Boal, project manager, "There's a clear need for more housing in Rapid City at all income levels." This sentiment echoes the city's own assessment of a severe shortage.
Sagebrush Flats marks Blue Line's second affordable housing project in the area, following Discovery Village on Anamosa Street. The new complex boasts one- to three-bedroom units with rent ranging from $1,000 to $1,400 per month. Eligibility is limited to families and individuals earning 60% or less of Rapid City's median income, approximately $58,000 for a family of four.
The development features an array of amenities, including a playground, basketball court, and community room. Boal credits the project's success to partnerships with the City of Rapid City and Black Hills Area Community Foundation, as well as funding from the South Dakota Housing Development Authority. Construction began in August 2023, and occupancy is already underway.
An open house event will be held at Sagebrush Flats on Friday and Saturday, offering prospective tenants a chance to explore the complex. With completion expected next month, Blue Line's efforts aim to improve the quality of life for many in Rapid City by addressing the pressing issue of affordable housing.
