eal Estate is releasing a new compilation album, The Wee Small Hours: B-Sides and Other Detritus 2011 - 2025, this Friday, May 2. The project collects rarities and b-sides from their 14-year partnership with Domino Recording Co. "We wanted to create an official-sounding collection of non-album tracks," says Martin Courtney. "The title comes from a song we recorded during the Atlas sessions in Chicago, referencing Frank Sinatra's record."
The compilation spans over a decade, starting with a 2011 cover of The Strokes' "Barely Legal" and including other covers like "Paper Dolls" (The Nerves), "Days" (Television), and "Daniel" (Elton John). It also features b-sides from the Atlas sessions, an unreleased track called "Two Part," and a Record Store Day fanzine flexi-disc from 2012.
To preview the compilation, Real Estate is releasing a new song today called "Pink Sky." The track was recorded last autumn at Tiny Telephone Studios in Oakland and features Martin Courtney in a whimsical video shot in his hometown of Beacon, NY.
