eff Bezos, the founder of Amazon, recently purchased a massive seven-bedroom, 14-bathroom home on a 2.8-acre estate in Miami Beach for a staggering $79 million. However, the identity of the buyer was kept secret, leading to a lawsuit against Douglas Elliman, the real estate firm involved in the transaction.
Leo Kryss, co-founder of Brazilian toy and electronics company Tectoy, filed the lawsuit against Douglas Elliman, alleging that the real estate firm's CEO misrepresented the identity of the buyer. According to Kryss's lawsuit, Douglas Elliman failed to disclose the name of the ultimate beneficial purchaser, which resulted in a loss of up to $6 million for Kryss.
Kryss had put up his home for sale last year with an $85 million price tag. Bezos initially purchased a property next door for $68 million before making an anonymous offer of $79 million for Kryss's estate. When Kryss asked if Bezos was the person making the offer, Douglas Elliman CEO Jay Parker allegedly told him that Bezos was not the buyer and that the purchaser would not agree to go above $79 million for the property.
The lawsuit also alleges that Celine Klepach, the real estate agent who handled the sale, is the daughter of Benny Klepach, the mayor of Indian Creek. Kryss was led to believe that the property was being bought for the Klepach family. However, after the sale, Kryss learned that Bezos had made the offer. He wouldn't have agreed to cut down the price by 7% had he known, according to Kryss's lawsuit.
Indian Creek Island, also known as "Billionaire Bunker," is home to several famous residents, including Jared Kushner and Ivanka Trump and retired NFL star Tom Brady. Douglas Elliman declined to comment on the matter.
