s I close out 2024, I'm revisiting my year-end ritual of reflecting on the past 50 columns. This time, I'll distill one key takeaway from each month that resonated with me.
January's theme was self-reflection and change. I encouraged readers to ask themselves tough questions about their living situation: Is it time for a change? Am I living where I should be? Grappling with these questions isn't easy, but it's essential to move forward. Lesson learned: Time keeps moving, whether we're ready or not.
In February, my friend needed an emergency decorating intervention for her son's apartment. We transformed the space from a dingy den to a date-worthy haven. The takeaway? Gentlemen, if you want to impress a lady, avoid these domestic don'ts: dirty towels, unmade beds, and tacky lighting.
March marked 20 years of writing this column. Reflecting on my journey, I realized that living beautifully doesn't require a big budget; it takes desire and drive. A beautiful life is designed on purpose.
April was about embracing creativity and taking risks. With the help of interior designer Christopher Grubb, I reupholstered two armchairs in bold zebra print – a move that still gives me confidence.
In May, I visited The Mustard Seed furniture bank in Central Florida, where I met a woman who had been living in her car with her children. Thanks to donations from thoughtful individuals, she was about to furnish a new home filled with color. Lesson learned: Cleaning and clearing out our homes can make a meaningful difference to those in need.
June brought a visit to my grandbaby in Colorado, where I was reminded that things have changed significantly since I last had a baby. Today's parents have access to smart technology and innovative products that make parenting easier. We've come a long way, baby!
