Portland, OR resident is speaking out about his horror after discovering that a squatter had been living in the basement of his apartment building for weeks. Wyatt Lanford, 28, first shared his shocking find on TikTok, where he explained how he stumbled upon the intruder after experiencing a series of strange occurrences.

    Lanford initially thought tales of squatters were urban legends until he moved to Portland from Flagstaff, AZ and encountered the issue firsthand. His apartment building was considered safe, with a security code and 24/7 security, but things took a turn for the worse in late November when construction work outside the building allowed an unknown person to enter.

    Lanford began hearing strange noises like screaming and wailing, which sounded "scary" and even frightened his dog. He initially thought it was coming from one of his neighbors, but soon realized that someone had entered the building. After the incident in the hallway, the intruder was removed by security, but Lanford soon discovered that the issue wasn't resolved.

    Over the next few days, he noticed notes on the front door and overheard a neighbor talking about seeing someone trying to steal a bike. Lanford initially suspected one of his neighbors might be responsible, but things took a turn when he spotted a "peculiar-looking man" in the basement while walking his dog.

    The man saw him and left, but Lanford soon realized that this was no isolated incident. A neighbor posted a warning on the building's message board about a "strange man" seen in the basement trying to steal a bike. Lanford discovered that the man was living in the basement, stealing packages, clothing, and attempting to steal bikes.

    The property management company eventually installed more security cameras inside and outside the building after receiving further complaints from residents. They also found a makeshift bed and trash near the laundry room, but there have been no additional reports of squatter sightings since then.
