Richard Gere's Connecticut estate torn down amid neighborhood backlash

Lulu Simon criticizes Richard Gere for selling her childhood home to developers.

R
ichard Gere's former Connecticut home has been demolished. The $11 million property, which the 76-year-old actor and his wife Alejandra Silva previously owned, is no longer standing, according to Reggie Young of Hudson Valley House Parts.

Young confirmed that the buyers allowed them time to salvage items from the house before it was torn down. "We are grateful for that," he said. The architectural pieces from inside the house have been relocated to Hudson Valley House Parts' New Jersey location and will be reused in other projects.

The 32-acre site is now being used to build a nine-property development by the new owners. Gere sold the house, which featured six bedrooms, seven bathrooms, and multiple fireplaces, for $10.75 million in an off-market deal last year.

Gere and Silva moved from the US to Spain shortly after the sale, citing a desire to be closer to Silva's family. The couple had bought the Connecticut home from Paul Simon in 2022 for $10.8 million. Simon had paid $16.5 million for it in 2002 with his wife Edie Brickell.

Simon's daughter Lulu has publicly criticized Gere, claiming he promised to take care of the land but instead sold the property to a developer. She shared an edited photo showing her deceased pets surrounding an image of Gere and wrote that she hopes they haunt him until he descends into madness.
