Richmond issues final real estate tax bills to mortgage holders

Richmond ends practice of sending real estate tax bills to mortgage lenders.

R
ichmond residents can expect to receive their real estate tax bills in the mail within two weeks. For those whose lenders typically pay the bill on their behalf, no action is required. However, taxpayers who directly pay their real estate tax bill should make arrangements to do so before June 16.

    If you've already paid your real estate tax bill and your lender also pays this year's bill, you can request a refund from the Department of Finance by following these steps:

    Visit rva311.com and search for "real estate" in the search box. Tap "Real Estate Taxes" in the menu that appears, then tap "Continue." Fill out the form with the following information:

    * Subtype: Refund

    * Inquiry type: Current year or prior year (select current year)

    * Requesting research or real estate payment refund: Refund request

    * Description or justification for request: Explain that you paid your bill and so did your lender, requesting a refund.

    You can also upload images of your payment and bank confirmation. Make sure to check the "Authorized Signature" box before submitting. If you need help with these steps, call 311 for assistance.
