OANOKE, Va. – The Roanoke City Council convened for its annual summit to discuss plans for next year, focusing on housing initiatives.
Following the approval of a zoning law in September that permits multi-family developments throughout all neighborhoods, city planners assured that property values will not decrease due to this change. Instead, it's expected to increase medium-density housing, an issue of particular interest to some new council members.
Incoming Council Member Terry McGuire expressed enthusiasm for tackling affordable and lower-income housing, as well as mixed-use developments and creative redevelopment projects. The discussion also touched on next year's budget plans, with both current and incoming council members weighing in.
