upert Murdoch's penthouse at One Madison has finally sold for $29 million, after entering contract last week with a reduced asking price from its original $62 million listing in March 2022. The media mogul had bought the triplex apartment in 2014 for $58 million and listed it again in April this year for $39 million. The penthouse spans three floors of the building, features six bathrooms, and boasts stunning views of the Hudson and East rivers from its nearly 600-square-foot terrace.
The sale comes as Manhattan's luxury market shows signs of recovery, with new development condos leading the way. In the past week, buyers inked deals for 28 homes asking $4 million or more, down from 30 in the previous period. However, nearly half of these properties were priced at $10 million or above, marking a significant increase since December 2021.
The top two most expensive homes to enter contract last week included Murdoch's penthouse and a unit at Steve Witkoff and Len Blavatnik's One High Line, which sold for $24 million. The latter features four bedrooms, four bathrooms, and stunning views of the Hudson River from its floor-to-ceiling windows.
The combined asking price of all 28 contracts was $307 million, with an average price of $11 million and a median of $10 million. The typical home spent 469 days on the market and received a 17 percent discount.
