kanska's program management and consulting group, Skanska Integrated Solutions (SIS), has completed construction of the Josiah Quincy Upper School in Boston's Chinatown district. The $223 million project was a partnership between the City of Boston, the Massachusetts School Building Authority (MSBA), and SIS, which served as the designated program manager.
The new school building features 178,000 square feet of space, accommodating 650 students, 84 staff members, and 35 educational spaces. The facility includes an auditorium with 435 seats, a black box theater, a 10,000-square-foot gym, and a cafeteria with approximately 250 seats. To mitigate air pollution from the adjacent Massachusetts Turnpike, the building's mechanical design incorporates enhanced air filtration.
The project also included site improvements such as landscaping and re-paving of surrounding alleys, streets, sidewalks, and crosswalks. The City of Boston praises Skanska for their professionalism and expertise in managing the project. "Skanska was an outstanding OPM on this project," said Rohn MacNulty, Deputy Director Public Facilities Department, City of Boston.
The Josiah Quincy Upper School is now open for the 2024/2025 academic school year following a ribbon-cutting ceremony on September 12th. Skanska's Program Director, Susan Feddema Gleason, notes that this project showcases their ability to create vibrant learning environments and promote enhanced learning experiences for students.
