Texas City's $200M development includes proposed surf park attraction

McKinney's Cannon Beach project: A $200M, 35-acre destination with surf lagoon, hotel, and amenities.

M
cKinney, Texas may soon become home to another surf park destination. The City of McKinney has partnered with the McKinney Economic Development Corporation and the McKinney Community Development Corporation on a $200 million project called Cannon Beach. This 35-acre development will feature a 4-acre surf lagoon, a hotel, retail space, restaurants, and office space. Located at the northeast corner of Stacy Road and Texas 121, the project is expected to break ground next year and be completed by 2026.

Cannon Development, led by Cole Cannon, is behind the project. This will be their second surf-focused development, following a similar complex in Mesa, Arizona. Plans also include a swimming pool, sand beach, cabanas with food service, and family-friendly entertainment options like a skateboard park and bowling alley.

This wouldn't be the first surfing spot in the Dallas-Fort Worth area. Goodsurf, a bar with pickle ball courts and yard games, recently opened a surf wave this summer, while Waco Surf has been offering a 2-acre wave pool since 2018. Additionally, a surf-themed development is underway near Austin, led by Discovery Land Company and professional surfer Kelly Slater.
