hierry Despont's former Hamptons estate has been sold to a New York hedge funder for $17.9 million, just shy of the original asking price of $18.4 million. The buyer signed an agreement four months ago and paid in full with cash. The property, located at 320 Majors Path in Southampton, spans 34 acres and features a main residence with six bedrooms, a guest house, and a pool house.
The estate's history is well-documented, having once been a horse farm and the original site of the Southampton Riding and Hunt Club, where Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis rode. The property was later used by Rosewood Farms before being acquired by Despont in 2011 for $8.5 million. He spent years assembling the estate, which includes a four-car garage and an infinity pool overlooking 50 acres of agricultural reserve.
The main residence spans 6,000 square feet, making the sale price work out to nearly $3,000 per square foot. The property was listed by Douglas Elliman brokers Paul Brennan, Michael Keszler, and Martha Gundersen after Despont's death in August 2023 at the age of 75.
