A
s a real estate reporter, I've spent years digging into nearly 200 building projects in Greater Cincinnati, often multiple times over. My goal is to uncover every last detail about each development. However, sometimes developers are still working out the kinks, and their plans aren't yet concrete.
That's why it's a relief when a project finally reaches the shovel-ready stage – it means the financing, design, and even potential tenants are all in place. This makes it easier for me to feature them on our annual top 10 developments to watch list, which highlights the most promising construction sites of the year.
To choose these projects, I consider location above all else. Every November, I review recent groundbreakings and upcoming completions, creating a list of around 15-20 potential candidates. From there, it's a tough decision, but compelling renderings and significant economic impact often tip the scales. I also strive to mix up the featured projects each year.
This list is more than just a collection of buildings – it showcases our region's collective efforts to grow and improve. Over the past few years, we've seen outdated department stores transformed into vibrant hubs, underused sports facilities become year-round destinations, and large-scale apartments fill gaps in the housing shortage.
When faced with construction noise or road closures, it's easy to get frustrated. But by looking ahead, we can see that these growing pains are worth it – they're paving the way for places we can take pride in. Stay tuned with The Enquirer to see what's next.
