ith over 100,000 real estate companies in the US, finding the right one can be overwhelming. While size isn't everything, bigger firms tend to produce more transactions each year. Here are the top-producing companies and biggest brokerages in the country.
The largest real estate companies are concentrated among a handful of firms with an outsize presence in the market. According to RealTrends, these are the 10 largest real estate companies based on total sales volume:
1. Compass: With over 33,000 agents across 96 markets, Compass produced more than $231 billion in transaction volume in 2024.
2. Anywhere Advisors: This company owns and operates several well-known brokerage firms, including Coldwell Banker and Sotheby's International. Its vast network of agents produced nearly $184 billion in transactions in 2024.
3. eXp Realty: With around 83,000 agents across all 50 states, eXp represented the largest number of transactions in 2024, producing over $152.6 billion in volume.
4. HomeServices of America: This company includes an expansive network of local brokerage firms and produced more than $136.6 billion in business in 2024.
5. The Real Brokerage, Inc.: Founded in 2014, this tech-forward company is growing fast and added over 10,000 new agents last year, producing more than $42 billion in deals in 2024.
While you can buy or sell a house without an agent, it's not always the best idea. The housing market is complex, with plenty of details and paperwork to manage. According to NAR data, 88% of buyers purchased a home with the help of an agent or broker, while 90% of sellers turned to an agent.
Finding the right agent requires research and due diligence. Ask friends and colleagues for recommendations, set up interviews with top candidates, and ask about their strategies for helping you buy or sell a home.
