Trump Criticizes Business Rival for Marrying a High-Profile Spouse

President Trump mocks late developer William Levitt's "trophy wife" in speech to graduates.

P
resident Donald Trump spoke to University of Alabama graduates on Thursday, offering words of caution about maintaining momentum in their careers. "Don't lose your momentum," he advised. "You want to keep going and know when it's time to stop."

Trump shared a story about William Levitt, the developer behind Levittown, a massive housing project that some graduates may have called home. Levitt was once the largest developer in the country, but after selling his company for a substantial sum, he retired and led a life of luxury with his second wife, whom Trump described as a "trophy wife."

Levitt's retirement was short-lived, however. He eventually returned to real estate development, only to lose momentum again and accumulate significant debt. Trump used Levitt's story to illustrate the importance of staying focused and avoiding complacency in one's career.
